  • T.V. Fiction Festival: Created in 1999, this annual event devoted to TV production, has taken place since 2007 in September at La Rochelle. The ambition of this festival is to promote French fiction by bringing together professionals and the general public. It presents a competition of over 20 unreleased films.
  • Le grand pavois: Europe's first in-the-water boat show, born in 1973, it welcomes on average 2,000 professionals and 80,000 visitors and since 1996 has been featuring a country or region.

  • Jazz entre les Deux Tours: A festival started over ten years ago which takes place in mid-October. It caters to a broad range of different tastes with a program reflecting nearly every artistic current in jazz.
  • The International Film Festival: For over 35 years this event with its eclectic program spanning the end of June till early July, has increased its following over the years. The festival is original in that it has no prize or jury. The programme is made up of films from a number of different countries, as well as retrospectives of certain directors. It has been able to find its own place among the national film festival network, remaining among the most attended and recognised.
  • Les Francofolies: Festival of today's music, created in 1985 by Jean Louis Foulquier, which takes place in mid-July. Today it is directed by Gérard Pont, Gérard Lacroix and Frédéric Charpail. It has become one of the main national forums of French song and songs from French-speaking countries. Other parallel activities such as Chantiers des Francos (advanced stagecraft workshop for emerging artists) and the Enfants de la Zique (teaching a young public) are also held.
  • Sunny side of the Doc: This event, supported by the Community of Town Halls in greater La Rochelle, is centered around a panel of several hundred high level buyers which are what guarantees the success of this International Documentary Film Marketplace. Sunny Side is the annual get-together of 2,000 international professionals, who spend 4 days in the month of June at La Rochelle's Congress Space.
  • Le Printemps des poètes: A national festival supported by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the National Book Centre and the Ministry of National Education. Highly regarded by national bodies, all the events in La Rochelle and in the surrounding communities are coordinated by the association Larochellivre.
  • International Sailing Week: An essential sports gathering: the International Sailing Week is one of the biggest and longest standing French sailing meet (over 400 boats at the traditional Tour of the Ile de Ré)
  • The autumn rally: Every autumn for more than 50 years the La Rochelle Rally brings in over 200 participants for the automobile trials which count for the 1st division of the French Rally Cup
  • The Serge Vigot marathon: Classed 3rd in the national hierarchy, attracts some 5,000 international runners (professionals and amateurs)
  • The Stade Rochelais: La Rochelle proudly wears the colours of the two sports in which it excels: rugby and sailing …
    The Yellow and Blacks of the Stade Rochelais are at their highest level in the French ranking for 100 years. As for sailing, the town is already a household name in that sport.
    La Rochelle has over 14,000 licensed sportsmen and women.
    Sport training is a priority here.
